Two Ears
Most of us have two ears and only one mouth.
That might be a hint as to the proportion each ought to be used. ;-)
I value learning and I know I don't learn nearly as much when I'm talking. In theory at least, I already know the stuff I talk about...
At our wedding my father in law said, "Mike is a good listener." That comment was followed by howls of laughter, which will make sense if you know She Who Must be Obeyed.
In addition to being a key for our marriage, listening is also an important part of being a Male Ally. HBR has a great article that describes more ways men can become better allies.
